Posted by Han in : Testimony , trackbackAt the end of November 1999, I attended a Christian Prayer Conference in East Malaysia for about 1 week. Not too long after I came back from the conference I was having a very high fever; about 40 degree Celsius. I went to the clinic; took some medicine but the fever did not subside. One the second day I went to the hospital for check up. The doctor diagnosed that I contracted dengue fever.
Dengue fever is an infectious disease carried by mosquitoes. Symptoms of typical dengue usually start with fever within 5 to 6 days after you have been bitten by an infected mosquito and include high fever, severe headache, severe joint and muscle pain, nausea and vomiting and rash. The rash may appear over most of your body 3 to 4 days after the fever begins. You may get a second rash later in the disease. Some other serious symptom includes bleeding from the nose, gums, or under the skin, causing purplish bruises. This form of dengue disease can cause death. There is no specific treatment for dengue fever, and like most people you will recover completely within 2 weeks. To help with recovery, health care experts recommend getting plenty of bed rest, drinking lots of fluids and taking medicine to reduce fever.
One the 3rd and 4th day, my condition worsens, my plateau counts drop very badly. The hospital has to transfuse 8 packets of blood in my body. My family members took good care of me. Many of the church’s brothers came forward to donate blood to me. Pastor came to pray for me. Brothers and sisters came to visit me; they prayed and sang songs of worship beside my bedside. Of course, at this point of time, I don’t really know what’s happening. I was very sick, having severe headache and pains were all over my body. I was in semi conscious. I was very weak. My weight went down remarkably. It’s like a dream; everything was so sudden; I don’t even have the time to think what is going on.
Thanks be to God, due to a lot of prayer supports and the protection of God, there was a turnaround on the 7th day. By the grace of God, my body eventually fights back. My condition got better day by day. Indeed, God’s strength is made perfect in my weakness. On the 10th day, I was totally recovered though and I got home.
I can still remember very clearly, that afternoon when I got home, I sat at the sofa, taking out my bible, I turned to Genesis 41: 50-52:
Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”
When I read that bible verses, I knew deep down in my heart God was telling me something. It was a very strong feeling; it is as though God is sitting in front of me. He said, “It’s the end of all your troubles, from now on I will cause you to be fruitful”. If I am not mistaken, that day should be the 26th December 1999. It was such a comfort. God is like making it official, it’s the end, no more!
Lastly, I want to say that God is faithful. No matter what I am going through He is always there for me. At times, I may be complaining, I may question Him, I may have doubts towards Him or I am angry with Him, God is still faithful. He will never leave me nor forsake me, He is watching over me even though I may not feel it. The best thing is that He will use all our experiences to help us to grow and He will also use it to bless others. If we are not walking in His will, we will miss out the plan of God in our life.
