Knowing the Will of God October 17, 2007
Posted by Han in : Relationship with God , trackbackAs a Christian close to 2 decades I found out that determining the will of God is one of the greatest concerns of many Christians. I had that problem too and I wish to tell everyone there is a simple formula to follow, it’s one plus two equal three but unfortunately it’s not that clear cut.
Many a time the problem lies not in God but ME! Not having a strong relationship, unable to listen to the voice of God and not sensitive to the Holy Spirit are some of the possible causes. Not knowing the will of God often leads to frustration, failure and missing the best plan of God.
And the golden question is how to determine the will of God in every area of my life? There is no specific way, God is creative, and He reveals his will to different people in different way. Most important is to find out “the way” in which God often speaks to you. You can find out more about recognizing the voice of God here.
I would like you examine one of the example from George Mueller’s life on how to determine the will of God which I find it useful. By the way who is George Mueller? George Mueller founded many orphanages in England during the 1800’s. His underlying purpose was to demonstrate to Christians how God could provide funds in direct answer to prayer. He received millions of dollars in this way.
George Mueller’s methods for determining the will of God:
1) I seek to get my heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in a given matter. When you’re ready to do the Lord’s will, whatever it may be, nine-tenths of the difficulties are overcome.
2) Having done this, I don’t leave the result to feeling or simply impression. If I do so, I leave myself liable to great delusion.
3) I seek the will of the Spirit of God through or in connection with, God’s Word, The Spirit and the Word must be combined. If I look to the Spirit alone without the Word, I lay myself open to great delusions also. If the Spirit guides us, He’ll do it according to the Scriptures, not contrary to them.
4) Next, I take into account providential circumstances. These often plainly indicate God’s will in connection with His Word and Spirit.
5) I ask in prater to reveal His will to me.
6) Thus, through prayer, the study of the Word and reflection, I come to deliberate judgment according to the best of my ability and knowledge. If my mind is thus at peace, and continue after two or three more petition, I proceed accordingly. I have found this method always effective in trivial or important issue.
The above 6 points governed George Mueller’s life in determining the will of God. You can take it as a reference. I want to stress it once more, the most important thing is to develop one ourselves. There is lots of decision to make, problems to solve, and challenges to overcome daily, you and me need to know the will of God in every given situation.
Knowing the will of God is essential to a prosperous, successful and abundant life. Amen.

I might only add one thing…the problem never lies with God. :)
i believe, only way to know God more is by spending time with God…in Words and Prayer.
well, it’s like spending time with someone, a friend, a lover, the more u’re spending time with the person, the more u get to know them..
same thing with God, themore u spend time with God, the more u knwo God!
when u know God more, u’ll know His will for u. Just like when u know a close friend, or family, u’ll know the person’s likes and dislikes….and what the person wants u to do..etc…
so, with God it’s same…the more we know God, the more we know about His character and the more we know what He wants for us and what He wants to give us!
bottom line - spending more time with God!
