It is strange, isn’t it? April 4, 2007

Recently, one of our church sisters was sharing regarding an article that she found from the internet entitled - It is strange, isn’t it? It is something simple but it drives out a very important fact about our spiritual condition. Please read:

Isn’t it strange how a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church, but such a small amount when you go shopping?

Isn’t it strange how 2 hours seems so long when you are at church, and how short they were when you are watching a good movie?

Isn’t it strange that you can’t find a word to say when you are praying, but you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?

Isn’t it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel?

Isn’t it strange how everyone wants front row tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit at the last row in church?

Isn’t it strange how we need to know an event for church 2-3 weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events in the last minute?

Isn’t it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?

Isn’t it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers day, but we question the words in the bible?

Isn’t it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they don’t want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?

Isn’t it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away, but when we are going to send messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it with others?

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Romans 8:5-8

This article reveals the condition of the heart. I would like to summarize the article simply by asking a question – are you living by the flesh or by the spirit? If you are living by the flesh, you will find it difficult to follow God. That is why every little thing done for God is like a mountain to climb! If you are living by the spirit, you will find it easier. It’s so natural. It’s already part of your life to offer, to read the bible, to pray, to go to church and to talk about God.

Are you living by the flesh or by the spirit?

I have been living by the flesh and it has gotten me in a lot of trouble. My world looks bleak. Most days I just want to die.
