God Enlarge My Territory January 30, 2010

The first month of 2010 is coming to an end. How time flies? Have you decided on what to do this year? Have you put your plans on paper? Have you chart out your goals for this year? What about your career, health, spiritual life, education, family, friends, leisure time and holiday? You see, how time flies and without you knowing you are at another year end party doing countdown!

But what’s the point of setting goal and having yearly resolution? Most of the time nothing happen! True enough, survey tells us that many people set their goals and resolutions each year but only a small percentage accomplish it and the rest of the people are just doing it for the sake of doing it.

Ok, but this year 2010 let it be different. Let’s choose to be in that small percentage, those who have achieved what they have aimed for. Let’s be different. Let’s not waste our life and time, choose to be an achiever this year. Let’s not wrap up our year in regret and disappointment! But how?

Let us take a look at the prayer of Jabez. It does offer us some help in meeting our goals and resolution.

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:10

1) Ask God to bless you.
Spend some quiet moment praying and handing every plan to God. Talk to Him about your plan, allow Him to alter and ask Him to bless the work of your hand. This is not a one time event done in the beginning of the year. Quiet time is spent every day. By doing this you are inviting God to take control and be in charge of your life, your plan and goal.

2) Enlarge your territory.
In order to accomplish big you must first think big! Jabez first think big therefore he asks God to enlarge his territory. The word “enlarge” actually means to make larger, to increase and to expand. If his mind is limited and restricted he would just be happy with what he has but no, he wanted God to enlarge, increase and expand his territory.

Therefore, be ready to stretch yourself. Be ready to assume greater responsibility. Be ready to think big. Be ready to expect greater things this year. If God were to enlarge your territory your life must be stretched on the inside!

3) God’s hand to be with you.
Jabez saw the need of having God’s hand. God’s hand represents his strength and authority. Unless God’s hand be with him, he will accomplish nothing. He recognized his strength was limited.
Indeed it is not by our own might or by our own power. We need to depend on the spirit of God to accomplish our plan.

4) Keep me from evil.
Pray that God will keep us from the evil one. We need God to protect what we intend to do. Let not the devil destroy our plans. Let’s be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

Finally, I pray that just as how God granted Jabez his requests, He will also grant you your requests. Let this year 2010 be a different year, a year that God “granted” your request, amen.
