God’s hand vs God’s face May 18, 2007

One day, God handed 2 people a piece of blank paper and told them to write in that piece of paper what they wanted Him to do. The first one wrote a list of things that he wanted God to do and the second one wrote nothing. Nothing! Both handed the piece of paper to God and God asked the second one why didn’t you write anything? The second one answered, “God, I left it blank for you to tell me what you wanted me to do.”

This illustration impacted me a lot in my relationship with God. The first person was seeking God’s hand. He was asking God to do something for him where else the second person was seeking God’s face. He was asking God what He wanted him to do. Is anything wrong with the first person’s request? No, absolutely no! As a Christian it is right to pray and ask God for something. He is our heavenly father, He loves to bless us.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:7-11

But our relationship with God should not stay put at this level where we are constantly asking God to do this or that. Allow me to use an unpleasant way of saying, we are just “making use” of God or worse, we regard Him as our servant! Please do not get me wrong, let me repeat myself, I am not saying that we cannot request anything from God or praying for something actually means regarding Him as servant. But we must go deeper in our relationship with God. Instead of seeking God’s hand, we must learn how to seek God’s face. The second person did exactly like that. He handed God a piece of blank paper and asked God what He wanted him to do.

Seeking God’s face is finding out the will of God. Let’s bring our relationship with God to the next level. We need to know the will of God in our life, family, work or church. We need to know what God wants us to do. We need to know the vision of God in our life.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

God is looking for people who are willing to humble themselves and pray and seek His face. Then God will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. What does this mean?

Seeking God’s face will result in God moving His hand.
