Your Future is NOW September 16, 2007
Posted by Han in : Personal Development , trackbackMost of the time when we talk about the future, we think that it is something very far away. Maybe this would be true for the young ones. But if you ask an older man, it may not be true. They use to think it that way when they were younger but now they no longer feel it anymore. Time passes quickly. We may not feel it but it is just ticking by everyday. It never stops. It never takes a rest. Before we know it, it just slips by us, day-by-day, month-by-month and year-by-year. And if you take look back, you will only find out that we are so old now!!!
What am I trying to say? There are 2 principles to take note here.
Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12
1) The bible in Psalm 90:12 teaches us to number our days. Let us pause for a moment and count. How many more days do we have? Of course we do not know the exact date of our departure but the bible did put an average of 70 to 80 years of lifespan. So we can use these numbers to see whether we have passed half or three quarters of our journey. Next, take a look at our life. Did we achieve much? Do we still have a lot of things undone? Did we plan for any holiday that until today we are still planning for it? Are we living in disappointments and regrets? We will never know, how much time is left and time is just ticking away. We may not have the chance to do it. We should quickly go and do whatever we want to.
2) The second principle is even more important – our future is now. We have to come into realization that what we become tomorrow will be very much depend on what we do today. For example if we want to be a doctor, it will all depend on how smart or how hard we study today. In fact, the bible also tells us that going to heaven or hell is very much depending on our decision to accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord now. Therefore, plan our future now.
I would like to share three “P” to a brighter and greater future:
1) Purpose – we must know our purpose
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
The problem we are facing today is we are not sure or we don’t really know where we are heading in life. It’s very sad. Imagine a blind man not knowing where to go or a ship tossing to and fro aimlessly!
What is our purpose in life? Do we have one that we can strive toward? Like Paul, do we have something that we can press on?
If we want a brighter future, we must know our purpose because our future is determined by what we decide or plan now!
2) Preparation – we must be prepared
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8
We can never be somebody great overnight; unless we are designated to be the successor of the King. But how many of us belong to such category? Similarly, we cannot obtain good result overnight, unless we are a genius. But how many belong to such category? We need to be prepared. Without preparation, we can never achieve our purpose. To be prepared is to work hard now, do not be lazy. We must set priority in our life and to do the important ones. Check our heart and identify the hindrances, addictions and bad attitudes. Remove away those that are preventing us from moving forward.
3) Perseverance – we must endure and not give up
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12
Results don’t come overnight. If we plant a tree, we don’t get to enjoy its fruit the following day. It takes times. That’s the problem. We want immediate result. In a very fast pace society, everything is about time but unfortunately it doesn’t work this way. We must persevere in order to achieve our goal. Bear that in mind, it is not going to be easy – no instant result! We will encounter problems, we will face difficulties and at times we will fail but we must endure and not give up, then only we will see result.
Our future is now. Time is critical. We need to do our preparation work now. Do not delay. Time will not spare us; it will not wait for us. Let’s start to plan and do something today before it’s too late or we are too old. As the saying goes - failing to plan is planning to fail. I pray that all of us will have a brighter and greater future ahead, amen.
