Remember The Works Of The Lord August 30, 2009

And I said, “This is my anguish; But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” I will remember the works of the LORD; Surely I will remember your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all your work, and talk of your deeds. Psalm 77:10-12

In Mark 8:14-21 we have a situation here where the disciples seems to be too caught up with having no bread and totally forgotten about the miracles that Jesus had performed, multiplying the bread to feed the five thousand and four thousand. Jesus seemed agitated and began to question them.

Why are you talking about having no bread?
Do you still not see or understand?
Are your hearts hardened?
Do you have eyes but failed to see, and ears but fail to hear?
And don’t you remember?
When I broke the fives loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?
And when I broke the seven loaves for four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?
Do you still not understand?

Probably Jesus was shaking his head when he asked the last question, “Do you still not understand?” Look here, the disciples had just experienced two occasions of miracles, not feeding a small crowd but feeding five thousand and four thousand respectively, and that’s beside women and children.

How can they forget about what happened? Aren’t the disciples there? How can they forget about what Jesus did? It was not a small miracle! It was feeding five and four thousand! They were there helping to distribute the bread right? They were even the one picking up the remaining pieces. But then they still cannot remember.

They were too caught up with having no bread. They were too concerned with their needs right now. Having no bread is not an issue; the issue is they cannot remember the works of the Lord. They are too caught up with the problem. The problem seems to be bigger than Jesus.

I find this situation very familiar in our lives. We tend to forget what Jesus did previously when we are facing our current problem; even it is a small problem. If you think back, remember how He saved you from an accident, remember how He delivered you from attacks, remember how He healed you from your sicknesses, remember how He carried you through your tough time, remember How He helped you financially, remember how He comforted you when you are heart broken, and remember He did many miracles.

But often like the disciples we are too caught up with our having “no bread” issue and forgotten about the works of the Lord. The devil will then magnify your small problem ten times bigger and often overshadow the power of Christ in your heart.

The Psalmist wrote, “I will remember the works of the LORD; Surely I will remember your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all your work, and talk of your deeds.” The key here is to remember, remember and remember the works of the Lord.

Remembering the work of the Lord will build our faith. We will not be timid but courageous in facing whatever situation. It doesn’t really matter how big the problem is but one thing for sure, God is definitely bigger than the problem. Praise the Lord! Now we are in a better position to fight because God is on our side.

Also you shall destroy all the peoples whom the LORD your God delivers over to you; your eye shall have no pity on them; nor shall you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you. “If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’— you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:9 the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. Deuteronomy 7:16-19

Moses did the same, reminded the Israelites to remember what the Lord God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, with signs and wonders, mighty hand and outstretched arm He brought they out of Egypt.

Moses knew as they march out to possess nations that are greater than them, they must not be afraid; they must remember what the Lord God did. They must remember or else they will be defeated.

Remember, remember and remember. The key is to remember the works of the Lord and God shall deliver you from your challenges.
