What is a crisis? A crisis could be an emotionally stressful event or traumatic change in a person’s life. It could be a sudden change in the course of a disease or fever, toward deterioration. It could also be an unstable condition, as in political, social, or economic affairs, involving an impending abrupt or decisive change. Lastly it could also be a conflict that reaches its highest tension and must be resolved.

Nobody likes to go through a crisis. At times you can prevent it from happening but many a times it happens unexpectedly. Therefore, going through a crisis is part of our lives. There are possibly 3 phases that you may be in. It’s either you are out of crisis or you are currently in a crisis or you are heading for one.

The important point to note is not whether you are in a crisis but how you confront and manage it. I want to thank God, he provided us with the answer from the bible.

How do you confront a crisis?

The answer can be found in James 1:2-11.

1) Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds. James 1:2

First and foremost, you got to consider it as pure joy. Face it with joy. I am not asking you to laugh for 24 hours but you have to face it positively. Jesus said in this world you will have tribulation but take heart I have overcome the world. Instead of being gloomy (as though it is the end of the world), you have to accept it with pure joy. Let the spirit of thanksgiving rise within your heart. Do not be anxious or unstable, remain calm. With such an attitude, I believe you are now in a better position to overcome the crisis.

2) The testing of our faith develops perseverance. James 1:3-4

Next, in every crisis there is an expiry date, very quickly it will end. Do not concentrate too much on the unbearable pain but look at what it will produces at the end of the day, a stronger and mature you. Indeed, the testing of your faith develops perseverance. There is a saying, tough time never last but tough people do!

3) Concentrate and focus on God. James 1:5-8

The best thing to do in the midst of crisis is to concentrate and focus on God. Let your heart be calm. Pray to God, ask God for wisdom in how to solve the crisis but do not doubt! Do not be a double-minded person, tossing to and fro by the wave of the sea. I believe God will show you ways to come out of the crisis. Sometime you need to wait for awhile; it is alright because the testing of your faith produces faith.

4) See through the gain and loss of this world. James 1: 9-11

Do not be too entangled by the things of this world. You are in the world but you are not of this world. A time to gain and a time to lose. When you leave this world, you bring nothing with you.
