Managing July 17, 2007

One of the key successes in managing human relationship is to recognize every person is unique. No two people are exactly the same. Each is a complex mix of background, temperament and emotion. Even twins may look the same on the outside but they think, act and feel differently. If we recognize this simple truth, we can avoid many relational conflicts.

In fact, it is this uniqueness that causes all kinds of communication problems; we often simply don’t understand each other! We may talk the same language but with different meaning. This can be very confusing and frustrating!

But wise people recognize and value the differences in people, therefore they relate to every single individual differently. There is no fixed style but rather different strokes in handling different type of people. They are flexible and not so rigid. They can easily blend in with others rather than requiring others to strictly follow their ways and methods.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. James 3:17-18

Would you like to be wise in managing human relationship? There are 6 ways that you can learn in dealing with others:

1) I won’t compromise my integrity.
Wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. I will be honest with you. I will keep my promises and commitments to you.

2) I won’t provoke you to anger.
Wisdom is peace loving. I will work at maintaining peace and harmony. I won’t trigger you to be angry.

3) I won’t ignore your feeling.
Wisdom is considerate. I may not feel the way you do but I won’t ignore or ridicule your feeling. I will respect your feeling.

4) I won’t criticize your suggestion.
Wisdom is submissive. I may not like your opinion and view but it is not you that I don’t like!

5) I won’t magnify your mistakes.
Wisdom is full of mercy. I won’t magnify your mistakes but instead I will cover it up for you.

6) I won’t take advantage of you.
Wisdom is sincere. I won’t take advantage or make use of you.

Managing human relationship is an art. It requires sensitivity, skill and wisdom. It’s not going to be easy unless you choose to live in the dessert by yourself. But with much perseverance and hard work, I am sure you are going to be successful in managing human relationship.
