Grief or Joy? June 1, 2007

Posted by Han in : Family and Children , trackback

A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. Proverbs10:1

Are you a grief or a joy to your parents? Have you ever considered this question before? Am I a grief or a joy? Am I breaking their hearts or making their day? Am I creating a lot of problem or bringing them a lot of joy? Am I making them worried all the time or do they take pride in me?

These questions are quite direct and not many want to answer. Please take note: In this world, you have only one father and one mother. No more or no less! They may not be the best parents but remember you have only one father and one mother. They may not be able to spend a lot of time with you but remember you have only one father and one mother. They may not have a lot of money but remember you have only one father and one mother. They may not be able to send you abroad for studies but remember you have only one father and one mother. They may not be able to provide you sufficiently but remember you have only one father and one mother. They may have a lot of weaknesses but remember you have only one father and mother. They may not fully understand you but remember you have only one father and one mother. In fact, there are a lot of things they may not be able to do but remember you have only one father and one mother.

What I am trying to say is this, your parents may not be the BEST but one thing I do know is that they raised you up. Your mother carried you in her womb for 9 months. She went through the labour pain and got you delivered. She woke up in the middle of the night to feed you. She cooked, bathed and taught you. What about your father? He has to work and slog all day long. He provides for the family. He has to endure a lot of hardship which nobody knows. In fact, both your parents went through a lot which they never complain to you. They kept it inside their hearts. Indeed, this is the heart of the parents.

I know there are some parents who are very terrible. They are not fit to become parents. But not many people have those types of parents. And if you are the unfortunate one, give thanks to God. Don’t give up. Pray and hand them over to God. Let God works in their hearts. Remember, no matter how serious your situation is, you have only one father and mother.

Generally all parents are very concerned of their children. So, how can you be a joy to your parents? Start to appreciate and thank God for them. Be understanding! They deserve a comfortable life now. Be thoughtful! Instead of making demand, bless your parents. Be considerate! They had worked very hard, now is the time for them to rest and enjoy life. Do not complain anymore! They are simply the BEST; no one can be compared with them. If you do likewise, the bible calls you as a wise son. Wise or foolish? The choice is yours.
